Dr. Betty Caponera: Director of Interpersonal Violence Data Central Repository
Betty
Caponera, Ph.D is the Director of the New Mexico Interpersonal Violence
Data Central Repository which was established in 1999 as the result of
VAWA funded research that began in 1996. She produces the statewide
Incidence and Nature of Domestic Violence report and Sex Crimes in New
Mexico report, annually. These reports are used to guide policy
decisions, program interventions and the cost-effective allocation of
resources for the prevention, treatment, prosecution and adjudication of
interpersonal violence crimes. In 2005, Dr. Caponera conducted New
Mexico’s first statewide violence victimization survey to capture
unreported incidents and lifetime prevalence of violence victimizations
in New Mexico. In 2006, she was appointed by Governor Richardson to
serve on the New Mexico Trauma Authority, a group formed to make
resource allocation decisions targeted to dramatically improve trauma
and mass casualty response throughout the state.
